With the TRF6900 RF and MSP430 MCU chipset, designers gain a means with which to design complete, programmable systems as small as two postage stamps. Applications such as utility metering, climate control, security systems, wireless data transmission and consumer electronics can be addressed with low power consumption designs. The chipset includes the MSP430C112, a 16-bit RISC MCU with sleep modes to reduce current draw during many operations. The device’s single-cycle execution time of less than 200 ns keeps active time to a minimum. The TRF6900 is a single-chip, 850-to-950-MHz transceiver that supports NBFM, FSK and OOK/ASK operating modes. It integrates a PLL, CCO and transmit power amplifier.
