8051-Based µC Registers Major Performance Gains

Jan. 1, 2001
Boasting of a 50x performance gain over original 8051 microcontrollers and a six-fold gain over the next-fastest 8051s, the DS89C420 is said to be the first 8051-compatible controller to achieve peak processing speeds of up to 50 MIPS at a maximum

Boasting of a 50x performance gain over original 8051 microcontrollers and a six-fold gain over the next-fastest 8051s, the DS89C420 is said to be the first 8051-compatible controller to achieve peak processing speeds of up to 50 MIPS at a maximum clock speed of 50 MHz. The device also includes 16 KB of flash memory that supports in-system, in-application and standard parallel programming. This pin-for-pin- and software-compatible 8051 µC also features two data pointers that can move data blocks forwards and backwards, 13 interrupt sources with five priority levels, three 16-bit timers, and a watchdog timer. Price is $10.10 each/25,000.
