Aimed at any application that includes some form of closed-loop control such as switch-mode power supplies, the PIC16C781 and PIC16C782 configurable, analog microcontrollers (MCUs) form a complete SOC in a 20-pin package. Both devices feature an op-amp, eight-bit d/a converter, eight-bit a/d converter, a programmable switch-mode controller, comparators, and a precision voltage reference. The PIC16C781 includes 1,024 x 14 bits of OTP program memory and the PIC16C782 has 2,048 x 14 bits. Both devices contain 128 bytes of RAM and operate at speeds up to 20 MHz. Other features include 16 I/O pins, a 4 MHz internal oscillator, one 16-bit timer, one eight-bit timer, and a watchdog timer. Available in PDIP, SOIC and SSOP packages, the PIC16C781 and PIC16C782 cost $2.76 and $2.98, respectively, each/1,000. MICROCHIP TECHNOLOGY INC., Chandler, AZ. (480) 786-7200.
