Applied To Cut 1,000 Jobs

Applied Materials is cutting 1,000 jobs — 7 percent of its workforce — to save about $150 million per year. The company said the cuts will affect its semiconductor equipment and services businesses. The reduction will be made through a combination of job elimination and attrition. Applied expects the cuts to be completed by the fourth quarter of its fiscal year 2008.
