Wipro Technologies will acquire the Berlin-based radio-access research and development (R&D) arm of Nokia Siemens Networks. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. As part of the partnership, 58 Nokia employees will be fully integrated into the operations of Wipro Technologies. Nokia Siemens Networks' strategy of transferring R&D capabilities to business partners is intended to manage costs and enable leveraging of the R&D partners' expertise. Wipro, a major player in telecom engineering solutions, has focused extensively on next-generation radio access technologies, according to a company release. "This partnership will further strengthen Wipro's capabilities and R&D services in the third-generation 3G," Ramesh Emani, president of telecom and product engineering solutions for Wipro, said in a statement.
