Hello,
The Trump Administration just announced huge tariffs on copper in yet another blow to the automotive industry.
According to Axlewise, each ICE vehicle, HEV, PHEV, and BEV uses 48, 85, 132 and 183 pounds of copper, respectively. At $5.57/lb, BEV manufacturers will be paying an additional $376 tax per vehicle for the privilege of being non-competitive in the international market with BEVs made in America. That doesn't count the retaliatory tariff on those outbound assembled vehicles or vehicle components.
More copper tariff details, below. Yes, I had a bit of fun with that article's image, which is only used for this newsletter's jump.
A couple of interesting articles I had restored this past week or so are in today's archives.
