Hello,
Murray brings us some insight on General Motors' next gen ADAS system, chock full of AI processing oomph, which is expected to bring eyes off the road operation. I have the SuperCruise system in my Blazer EV and would be tickled if it could merely lanekeep in unmapped areas or recognize that my eyes ARE on the road while I'm wearing glasses and not drop out of self-driving.
We also have a contributed article on some of the merits and pitfalls of using wireless links for EV battery management systems. I've seen where RF-connected modules are proving to be a real  headache for the 2nd life crowd, ICE to EV converters, where the BMS has to be completely reworked because the keys to the encryption are not clearly marked on the battery modules. So, I'm not a huge fan if the second life value of a depleted-capacity EV battery is diminished, increasing the net cost of installing a new battery in the EV.
James has been on top of the breaking industry news of the week - Skyworks and Qorvo (a merger of RFMD and TriQuint) are merging, which creates a create a $22 billion giant in high-performance radio frequency (RF), analog, power, and other mixed-signal semiconductors. How quickly they grow up - we celebrated crossing over $100M in company revenue in the late 90's when I was with TriQuint.
Not only does this time of year bring out the pumpkin spice, but it's also when we do our annual salary survey where we crunch the numbers and share the results with our readers in a few months. If you have a moment, please give Electronic Design's salary survey a go.
enjoy,

p.s. have a happy & safe Halloween!
