Mobile-Edge Server Built To Endure Extreme Environments

The ADLINK's new Extreme Outdoor Server, based on the dual Intel Xeon E5-2400 v2 family of processors, enables telecom equipment manufacturers and application providers to deliver data center performance at the edge of the network. Providing IT and cloud-computing capabilities within the RAN in close proximity to mobile subscribers, offers a service environment characterized by proximity, ultra-low latency, and high-bandwidth that allows content, services, and applications to be accelerated. The mobile-edge platform provides computing resources, storage capacity, connectivity, and access to user traffic and real-time radio and network information. Attributes such as shock and vibration resistance, -40˚C to +55˚C operating temperature range, and IP65 water and dust ingress rating make the computing platform perform well in outdoor and extreme environments. Utilizing ADLINK's ARiP software, which includes PacketManager, remote management functions, and system management APIs for application developers, enables customers to focus primarily on their application instead of the IoT platform building blocks required for cloud computing. The Extreme Outdoor Server eliminates fans and filters while offering worry-free, weather-resistant, high-speed connections for copper or fiber options.

Software Provides Virtual Surface Tools for Augmented Reality Control

Release 2.0 of Augumenta's AIP SDK is the first developer toolkit to allow integration of both gesture control and smart surfaces, providing the basis for a greatly enhanced and more productive user interface for augmented reality work spaces. The SDK, which supports application development on all camera-equipped smartglasses, now provides several types of virtual surfaces. Smart controls include buttons, switches and sliders that can be used in applications that control either virtual or real-world devices, such as machines on a shop floor. Virtual keyboards in numeric pad, qwerty and special alphanumeric configurations allow ‘in the air’ entry of data and commands. With the new release, developers can now combine application navigation and control using eight dynamic gestures, as well as gesture combinations, with powerful virtual controls and data entry features. The SDK provides a free hand drawing tool, and both gesture control and smart surface functionality using single camera, 2D machine vision. Development is supported on any smartglass platform running Android, Linux and POSIX operating systems. Augumenta also provides APIs for C/C++, Java and Unity3D, as well as sample code for implementation on the Metaio, Unity and Vuforia platforms.

HD Audio CODEC With Integrated Class-D Amplifier Targets Tablets

Conexant's CX8200 ultra-low power, high-performance HD Audio CODEC intelligently drives speakers to optimize sound pressure level while protecting the speaker and eliminating background noise. Part of the AudioSmart 2.0 product family, the device features a fully integrated Class-D smart amplifier and interfaces directly with Conexant’s software, boasting flawless speech recognition and audio output up to several times louder than existing PC/tablet speakers. USB Type-C to DisplayPort Cables Interoperable With Older Products

A EZ-PD CCG1-based Type-C to DisplayPort Cable solution from Cypress Semiconductor enables connectivity between a USB Type-C receptacle and a DP or mDP receptacle, allowing emerging Type-C notebooks and monitors to be interoperable with older products. The Type-C to DP solution includes USB Billboard Device Class, which allows the adapter to communicate status to a host that does not support DP, and uses Cypress’s EZ-PD CCG1 Type-C Port Controller to support DP as one of its alternate modes and the CY7C65210 full-speed USB 2.0 controller to support the USB Billboard Device Class. The solution is interoperable with the Apple MacBook, the Google Chromebook Pixel and multiple other systems. The USB Type-C standard enables slim industrial designs, easy-to-use connectors and cables, the ability to transmit multiple protocols, and 100 W power delivery. The 2.4 mm-high connector plug is significantly smaller than current 4.5 mm USB Type-A standard connectors, and also allows for transport of USB signals and PCIe or DP signals on the same connector. A CCG1 product video at the company's website demonstrates the transmission of DisplayPort signals over a Type-C connection.
