Equipped with carbon composition resistive position sensing elements and ±20% standard resistance tolerance in a compact standard 9 mm2 package, the Models 585 and 586 potentiometers were developed for consumer applications, including audio controls, home appliances and games for low-end instrumentation. The panel-mount Model 585 is available with single, dual or quad sections and metal shaft. The single section Model 586 is a vertical or horizontal pc mount unit with a plastic shaft. The new devices are designed to deliver comparable price and performance to similar controls manufactured by Panasonic, Alps, and Taiwan Alpha.
