Small Transformers Eye DSL Markets

Trimming down for deployment in DSL applications, the B78416A1850A003 (EP5XL) inductor is 25% smaller in area, 31% lower in height, and 48% smaller in volume than its predecessor, the B78417A1764A003 (EP7). The component measures 64.5 mm2 and 7 mm in height while consuming an over-all volume of 451.5 mm3. Despite its smaller core volume, the transformer retains the same longitudinal balance and THD values as the EP7. Features include an inductance of 100 µH, turns ratio of 1.4:1.4:1.1, surge-voltage capability of 1.5 kV, RDC line of 1.5Ω, RDC chip of 0.84Ω, a longitudinal balance in excess of 50 dB, and a typical THD of 90 dB.
