A series of open-frame dc-to-dc converters is said to be the first such products to be mountable either vertically or horizontally. When mounted horizontally, the 5W to 100W Excalibur converters can be configured for either through-hole or surface-mount attachment, making the Excalibur the world’s first SMT 100W dc-to-dc converter. When mounted vertically, the units are said to have the industry’s smallest pcb footprint. The first two products in the series are the PT6700 Series, a 13A, non-isolated converter; and the PT4480 Series, a 48V-input, 100W-output isolated model. Both feature synchronous rectification for high efficiency and digital 5-bit programmable output voltages as low as 1.3V. The PT6700 has inputs of 3.3V, 5V or 12V and features differential remote sense. The PT4480 offers a full telecom input voltage range of 36V to 75V and a host of features including N+1 current sharing and various protection features.
