Designed to limit inrush current during live insertion and filter over-current transients, the LTC4211 hot swap controller latches off an external N-channel MOSFET during short-circuit faults for supplies from 2.5V to 16.5V. The device monitors output voltage and generates a RESET signal if the voltage drops below a programmable threshold, eliminating external circuitry.Available in a SO-8 package, it is pin-compatible with earlier LTC Hot Swap controllers and is also available in a eight-pin MSOP. A 10-pin MSOP version is available that includes a FAULT output to signal an over-current condition, which also adds a FILTER pin that is used to program the response time for the circuit breaker. The FAULT pin can also be used to program the circuit breaker to automatically retry or latch off after a fault. Pricing starts at $1.95 each/1,000.
