Via a two-wire I2C or SMBus interface, the LTC-1908-8 synchronous step-down dc/dc controller's output voltage is software programmable from 1.3 to 3.5V. Communication includes reading and writing to and from the device and on/off control. Two five-bit settings are programmed into internal registers via an SMBus interface and a register-select pin to change the output voltage. The dc/dc control section incorporates valley-current-mode control, said to deliver very low duty cycles without requiring a sense resistor. Operating frequency is set via an external resistor. Available in a 28-lead SSOP. price is 45.05 each/1,000. LINEAR TECHNOLOGY CORP., Milpitas, CA. (408) 432-1900.
