Gate Drive Optocoupler Maximizes Design Scalability

Feb. 6, 2013
A highly-integrated smart gate drive optocoupler specifying 1 A output current, with dual outputs optimized for driving high- and low-side gates of the MOSFET buffer stage.

Avago’s ACPL-339J is a highly-integrated smart gate drive optocoupler specifying 1 A output current, with dual outputs optimized for driving both high-side and low-side gates of the MOSFET buffer stage. The device features internal active timing control circuitry preventing cross conduction and minimizing switching losses in the buffer stage. Expanding upon previous generations, the new optocoupler further maximizes gate drive design scalability for motor control and power conversion applications ranging from low to high power ratings. Designed to support MOSFET buffer of various current ratings, the device simplifies the task of supporting different system power ratings using one hardware platform by interchanging the MOSFET buffers and power IGBT/MOSFET switches, without redesigning the critical circuit isolation and short circuit protection. Featuring VCE desaturation (DESAT) detection, UVLO detection, "soft" IGBT turn-off and isolated open collector fault feedback, the IEC/EN/DIN EN 60747-5-5 and UL1577 compliant SO16 package also offers wide creepage and 8.3 mm clearance. The ACPL-339J gate drive optocoupler is priced starting at $4.25 each/10,000 with samples and production quantities available now.
