LDOs Reduce Jitter And Eliminate Noise Filters

May 23, 2013
LDO linear voltage regulators feature less than 10 µVrms output noise over the 10 Hz to 100 kHz bandwidth in ultra-small packaging.

The 250 mA LP5907 and 800 mA LP38798 from TI are LDO linear voltage regulators featuring less than 10 µVrms output noise over the 10 Hz to 100 kHz bandwidth in ultra-small packaging. The LP5907 meets the requirements of RF and analog circuits in applications such as mobile handsets, tablets and WiFi devices. This LDO provides a PSRR of 75 dB at 1 kHz, operating with an output voltage range between 1.2 V and 4.5 V in 25 mV steps. Boasting industry-leading noise performance without a bypass capacitor, the device includes the ability for remote ceramic output capacitor placement. The LP38798 supplies 800 mA of output current with an operating input voltage range of 3 V to 20 V. Meeting the requirements of sensitive RF and analog circuitry in applications such as base stations, this device delivers an output noise of 5 uVrms and a PSRR of 90 dB at 10 kHz, and is stable with both ceramic and tantalum output capacitors. Available now, the LP5907, offered in 5-pin SOT-23, 4-pin micro SMD and 4-pin DSBGA packages, is priced at $0.23 each/1,000, and the LP39798, offered in a 12-pin WSON package with thermal pad is priced at $1.30.
