Op Amps Extend Battery Life With Low Power Consumption

June 20, 2013
Operational amplifier family provides low power consumption for a given gain-bandwidth product, including low quiescent current.

A new nine-member general-purpose operational amplifier family from Microchip Technology, the MCP647X/8X/9X, provides low power consumption for a given gain-bandwidth product, including low quiescent current, to extend battery lifetimes. They also experience exceptionally low leakage current over temperature, up to 125°C, and with an input offset voltage of 1.5 mV and packages as small as the SC70 and SOT-23, the op amps are suited for portable applications in the consumer, industrial, automotive and medical markets. For applications that have sensors with high output impedance or that go through accelerated life tests at high temperatures, the op amp family’s low leakage current is particularly important. All nine members of the op amp family are available today for sampling and volume production, starting at $0.49 each/5,000. The MCP6471, MCP6481 and MCP6491 offered in 5-pin SC70 and SOT-23 packages; the MCP6472, MCP6482 and MCP6492 in 8-pin SOIC, TDFN and MSOP; and the MCP6474, MCP6484 and MCP6494 in 14-pin SOIC and TSSOP.
