Programmable PSUs Deliver Constant-Current Output Down To Near 0 V

Nov. 14, 2013
XP Power’s HDS series of 800- and 1500-W ac-dc power supplies (PSUs) program the output current to achieve a true constant-current output down to almost 0 V—the industry norm is typically down to 20% to 40%.

XP Power’s HDS series of 800- and 1500-W ac-dc power supplies (PSUs) program the output current to achieve a true constant-current output down to almost 0 V—the industry norm is typically down to 20% to 40%. Both the output voltage and output current are programmable from 0% to 105% of stated nominal through serial RS-232 or I2C interfaces, a 0 to ±5-V dc input, or via an external potential divider. Seven single-output models in the series cover nominal outputs from +12 to +60 V dc. Output voltage can be manually adjusted ±5% by a trim function to make up for line losses. Typical efficiency ranges up to 93%. The 800-W HDS800 models measure 9.80 by 5.00 by 1.61 in., and the 1500-W HDS1500 models measure 11.02 by 5.0 by 2.5 in. Both fit into a 1U or 2U profile. Power density is greater than 10 W per cubic inch. Operating temperature ranges from −10 to +70°C (+60°C for the HDS1500), with no derating until +50°C. Applications include semiconductor manufacturing equipment, battery charging, and automatic test equipment.
