For use with power supplies having a wide input range, the TPS40K series of synchronous step-down, voltage-mode dc/dc controllers is said to provide added flexibility, power efficiency and ease-of-use for designers of high-density, 12V, 24V and higher bus supplies for telecomm, wireless base station, and computer server applications. The new buck dc/dc controller series embraces two lines: the TPS4005x line steps down input voltages ranging from 8V to 40V and comes in source-only, source-and-sink and source-and-sink with Vout pre-bias versions; and the TPS4006x line handles inputs ranging from 10V to 55V and is available in source-only and source-and-sink versions. The devices offer a variety of user programmable features, including closed-loop soft-start, under-voltage lockout, operating frequency, voltage feed-forward, and high-side current limit. In addition, the devices's gate drive logic incorporates anti-cross conduction circuitry to prevent simultaneous high-side and synchronous rectification. Housed in 16-pin TSSOP PowerPad packages, TPS40K controllers cost $1.19 each/10,000. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Semiconductor Group, Santa Clarita, CA. (800) 477-8924, ext. 4500.
