Regulating power in telecomm, datacomm and power-over-Ethernet (802.3af) systems, the ISL6721 integrates advanced fault protection features that guarantee abnormal operating conditions will not cause the power supply to fail. These include a low-power disable mode, delayed restart from over-voltage and over-current shutdown events, thermal shutdown, and adjustable soft start, over-current shutdown delay, and under-voltage and over-voltage monitoring. In the low power mode, supply current drops to less than 200 µA during over-voltage and over-current shutdown faults. Suitable for 48V and 36V to 72V applications, the device works with a wide range of dc/dc conversion topologies, including flyback, forward and boost configurations. Other features include a 1A MOSFET gate drive, 100 µA startup current, an adjustable switching frequency up to 1 MHz, bi-directional synchronization, adjustable slope compensation, leading-edge blanking, and a 1% tolerance voltage reference. In 16-lead SOIC (ISL6721AB) and TSSOP (ISL6721AV) packages, prices are $1.49 and $1.59 each/1,000, respectively. INTERSIL CORP., Milpitas, CA. (321) 729-4646.
