The S-8261 lithium-ion battery protection IC is said to have superior accuracy for over-charge (±25 mV), over-discharge (±50 mV), and over-current (±15 mV) detection voltages. The chip is housed in a six-pin SNB (B) package for a footprint of just 1.8 mm x 2.0 mm x 0.75 mm. It also comes in a SOT-23-6 package. During operation, the device consumes only 3.5 mA, and only 0.1 mA in power-down mode. Applications include hand-held scanners, notebook computers and other portable electronic products that use lithium-ion rechargeable single-cell battery packs. Pricing begins at $0.35 each/10,000 for the SNB (B) package and $0.30 for the SOT-23-6. SEIKO INSTRUMENTS USA INC., Torrance, CA. (800) 934-9334.
