An average-current, boost-type power factor correction (PFC) controller has been developed that employs zero-voltage switching (ZVS) control circuitry to allow efficient operation at high switching frequencies. The FAN4822 PFC controller is targeted at power supplies rated 500W or higher, with the device's continuous boost architecture allowing supplies to achieve power factors as high as 98%. In addition, the controller also features low total harmonic distortion, enabling it to comply with "green initiatives", and its built-in ZVS circuitry allows designers to use smaller, lower cost components.
