Laser Temperature Controller Occupies Single Chip

Feb. 1, 2002

Said to be the optical-networking industry's first single-chip laser-temperature controller, the ADN8830 provides a temperature stability of ±0.01ûC, greater than 90% efficiency, and lower than 1% ripple noise. The device features system-supervising functions that include real-time temperature monitoring, temperature lock indication, and switching-frequency and phase control. A wave-locker-input function promises to enable higher wavelength accuracy. In addition, the chip is also reported as being the first such controller available in a 5 mm2, chip-scale package. Price is $19 each/1,000. ANALOG DEVICES, INC., Norwood, MA. (781) 461-3700.
