Mux/Demux Chip Offers Low Uniform Insertion Loss

Said to be the industry's lowest loss multiplexer/demultiplexer (Mux/Demux) device for optical networking systems, the W700 series module is a passive optical component that combines up to 40 wavelengths of light or channels into a single optical fiber. It can be used with optical transmitters or can precede an optical receiver. Exhibiting low uniform insertion loss, the module provides a typical insertion loss of 3.5 dB in a 16-channel system. Wavelength shifts are limited to 0.3 pm/ûC, said to be a factor-of-two improvement over comparable products. Several configurations with multiple channel counts are available, including 1 x 4, 1 x 8, 1 x 16, 1 x 20 and 1 x 40. Channel spacing ranges from 400 GHz to 50 GHz.
