Six-Channel DAC Serves Audio Applications

Nov. 1, 1999

Designed for audio applications such as DVD, home theatre systems, and digital TV, the WM8736 is a 24-bit, six-channel DAC with volume control. The chip supports data input word lengths from 16 to 24-bits and sampling rates to 96 kHz. It consists of a serial interface port, digital interpolation filters, multi-bit sigma delta modulators and six DACs in a small 28-pin SSOP package. The device also includes a digitally controllable mute and attenuator function on each channel. It supports a variety of connection schemes for control of the DAC. The chip's Dolby Class A performance achieves 102dB dynamic range, better than 100dB cross-talk rejection and 112dB signal-to-noise ratio.
