Our students derive significant benefit from the faculty research accomplishments. For example, the New York State funded Sensor CAT, rooted in the ECE department, has a large effect on our academic programs. The Sensor CAT often provides technically meaningful employment to our students and its facilities are widely used in the senior design projects.

SUNY Poly Welcomes DPS Engineering's U.S. Advanced Technology Group Headquarters

As testament to Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s innovation-centered business growth strategy for New York State, SUNY Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly) and DPS Engineering held a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the establishment of DPS’ U.S. Advanced Technology Group headquarters at SUNY Poly’s $191 million Zero Energy Nanotechnology (ZEN) building. A direct result of Governor Cuomo’s pioneering STARTUP-NY initiative, DPS will create 56 new jobs over the next five years and drive $40 million into New York’s upstate economy by offering select engineering services to globally recognized corporations from across the state. The company will also develop and provide student and workforce training opportunities.

Program Overview

Electrical Engineering/Computer Engineering

Our students derive significant benefit from the faculty research accomplishments. For example, the New York State funded Sensor CAT, rooted in the ECE department, has a large effect on our academic programs. The Sensor CAT often provides technically meaningful employment to our students and its facilities are widely used in the senior design projects. The Sensor CAT helps leverage the externally funded research by channeling research efforts for the benefit of undergraduate education. Rewarding mechanisms such as public presentations further enhance the students’ experience.

Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering of Stony Brook University offers an undergraduate BE degree. We also have a combined BE/MS program as well as graduate programs leading to the Master of Science and the Doctor of Philosophy degrees. A broad curriculum is available in our graduate programs with concentrations in Mechanical Design, Solid Mechanics, Thermal Sciences and Fluid Mechanics. The faculty is active in research, with funding from Federal and State agencies such as the NSF, Department of Defense, Brookhaven National Laboratory and from private industry.
