AVX Corporation is introducing a new series of COTS Plus polymer solid electrolytic multianode chip capacitors, the TCS Series, in addition to expanding and upgrading their TCR Series professional conductive polymer capacitors. The new additions are designed for demanding, long-lifetime dc/dc converter applications in telecommunications, industrial and avionics.
The TCS Series delivers an ESR value of 12 mΩ, low leakage current of 0.1 CV, capacitance ratings from 470 mF to 1,000 mF and is available with three surge testing options: standard, 10 cycles at 25°C and 10 cycles at both -55°C and +85°C. The capacitors are currently available in “E” case size, in 2.5 V, 4 V and 6.3 V rated voltages, and 470 mF and 1,000 mF capacitance ratings with a ±20% tolerance. They are 3x reflow compatible at 260°C, operate from -55°C to +125°C, and the parts can withstand relative humidity extending up to 85% at 85°C. TCS Series capacitors are shipped on 7" or 13" reels with a current lead-time of 12 weeks.
The upgraded TCR Series now includes extended voltage ratings from 4 V to 50 V with rated voltage up to 105°C, capacitance values up to 220 µF, and new EIA Metrics 3528-21, 7343-31 and 7343-20 case sizes. Both families feature an improved base reliability of 0.5% per 1,000 hours at 85°C and rated voltage with 0.1 Ω/V series impedance. The capacitors operate from -55°C to +125°C, and have improved humidity ratings from 85°C/85%RH at rated voltage for 120 hours to 500 or 1,000 hours. Standard DCL for the series is 0.1 CV, although values down to 0.05 CV are now available on selected codes, and ESR values range from 40 mΩ to 70 mΩ. TCR Series capacitors are available on 7" and 13" reels with a current lead-time of 10 weeks.
