Hello,
You're probably going to have the same reaction as Roger, our Managing Editor, when he saw my latest submission to him (he edits the articles the Editors submit for publication, coordinates the art department's contribution, wrangles our janky content management system, and produces the smooth and polished content you see on our site - he makes us all look good in his role as man behind the curtain). "Not another ban article!"
Unfortunately, yes. The State of Washington is mulling over legislation to require content filtering for models being sent to 3d printers and CNC machines. Seems this legislation is being copied by New York State as well. Yes, it affects everyone from a kid with a printer at home to aerospace giants. I also think it may spread to other states, perhaps even countries, so there's a call to action before we see severe supply chain issues as well as security holes that can disclose your IP. More details in the lede piece in this newsletter.
You'll notice a couple of the figures in that piece have an interesting look - it's an experiment. I proposed a loosely-constrained concept to Roger to unleash our creativity and he gave the go ahead to Tony, in our art department, to stretch his creative muscles a bit vs "we need an excerpt of text from a PDF." Hope you like Figs 6 & 7.
A couple of other pieces in today's newsletter on selecting multiplexing ADCs and on a cool (heh heh) membrane that researchers have come up with that enhance high-flux heat removal in evaporative cooling systems.
As we continue to process the mountain of content from the CES 2026 event in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago, check out our CES section for the latest, below.
I'm also sharing some of the things I've read and watched recently that may interest you, so don't miss those as well. There isn't time or space for us to write about everything and you're here to stay current and learn new things. It's mostly worthwhile stuff.
enjoy,
