The iBD series of 7-A non-isolated point-of-load (POL) converters from TDK-Lambda features a DOSA-compatible (Distributed-power Open Standards Alliance) pin-out for use in telecom, computer, datacom, medical, and industrial equipment. These thru-hole mounted devices come in a single-inline package (SIP) that measures just 1.0 by 0.5 by 0.33 in.
With its 6- to 14-V input range, the iBD series suits today’s diverse range of loads in a variety of architectures, including distributed power and 4:1 and 5:1 unregulated bus converter systems. Its 0.8- to 5.5-V output adjustment range, its ability to start with a pre-biased output, and its 7-A maximum output current suit the series for use in ASIC, FPGA, and other applications that may require multiple voltages.
Furthermore, the series offers a 92% power conversion efficiency. Combined with careful component layout, this enables the converters to provide better thermal performance than many similar devices, according to TDK-Lambda. Designers, then, can benefit from higher output power for a given thermal environment or lower thermal stress for the same output power.
Standard features include fixed-frequency operation for reduced EMI/RFI noise, remote on/off, flexible output voltage sequencing, auto-recovery of input under-voltage, and output over-current protection circuitry. Options include negative polarity on/off, no output voltage sequencing, 9.6- to 14-V input voltage range, and shorter thru-hole pins at 0.13 in. (Standard pin length is 0.20 in.)
Safety approvals include UL60950, VDE0805, and CB scheme (IEC60950). All models carry a three-year warranty and comply with the European Union’s Restrictions on Hazardous Substances. Available now, the iBD series converters are priced from $9.67 each in 1000-unit quantities.
