ON Semiconductor’s NUC2401MN common-mode choke and electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection IC is designed for high-speed data line applications. According to the company, this device rids the low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) interfaces of common mode noise, which becomes necessary when working with high bandwidth.
The NUC2401MN incorporates high-bandwidth differential filtering, common-mode stop band attenuation, and ESD protection. With these features as well as a lower component count, as reported by the company, the NUC2401MN surpasses common electromagnetic interference (EMI) filters and discrete alternatives.
This product is designed to be compatible with applications using high-speed differential data lines such as USB 2.0, IEEE1394, LVDS, MIPI, and MDDI, and in accordance with ON Semiconductor, it not only improves reliability and achieves space and cost savings, but also offers quality filtering and protection.
Its dual flat no-lead (DFN) package of 2.0- by 2.2-mm dimensions consolidates five discrete components, and at the same time integrates common-mode EMI filtering with ESD protection of up to ±12 kV. ON Semiconductor states that its Machine Model (MM) and Human Body Model (HBM) have esd ratings of 1.6 kV and 16 kV. Functioning from -40°C to 85°C, the NUC2401MN has an MSL 1 rating, according to the company.
Helpful in parasitic inductance reduction, the device allows better common-mode filtering since it is an integrated solution, says ON Semiconductor. With 40 MHz as the frequency limit for common-mode noise reduction, the typical common mode impedance at 100 MHz and 500 MHz tallies in at 200 Ω and 500 Ω.
The product also features a low maximum clamp voltage of 10 V at the top current of 5 A and guarantees good ESD protection, asserts the company. In addition, 19 A remains the maximum peak pulse current rating. The NUC2401MN, available in a DFN8 package, costs $0.533 USD per unit in 10,000-unit quantities.
