Automotive Converters

The PCMDS60W series of dc-dc converters from MTM Power are designed for automotive applications. These primary-switched converters have outputs of 60 W and feature push-pull operation at approximately 70 kHz. With a transformer and a secondary linear choke, a galvanically isolated output voltage (5.2 V, 12 V or 24 V) is regulated by current-mode PWM.

The converters, measuring 130 mm long × 69 mm wide × 30 mm high, are available with a wide input range to support battery voltages of 24 V, 36 V, 72 V, 96 V and 110 V. The connectors are linked by spring clamps to reduce wiring time. The converters need no ground load and are maintenance-free and short-circuit protected by primary and secondary power limitation. The converters must be mounted on a heat-dissipating surface for cooling.

Electric-Vehicle Converters

A line of compact, fully isolated dc-dc converters is available from SEVCON that is suitable for electric vehicles and other equipment having inputs from 24 Vdc to 160 Vdc that need to be modified to 12 Vdc or 24 Vdc. The converters deliver stable, isolated 300-W, low-voltage dc output to ensure accessories operate properly, regardless of load current or the state of battery charge.

Designed to be installed onboard electric-powered vehicles and connected permanently to the battery, these converters are fully encapsulated and IP67 rated. Protected from short-circuit, overload and reverse-polarity connection, the SEVCON dc-dc converters perform reliably in demanding industrial environments and can be connected in parallel for higher power requirements. Offered with or without an internal fuse, the converters are priced starting at $69 each.
