Agilent Demonstrates LTE, Multi-Standard Radio, MIMO Test at 4G World

October 25, 2011. Agilent Technologies Inc. is showcasing a number of test solutions at 4G World this week in Chicago. The demonstrations will focus on LTE, Multi-Standard Radio (MSR) measurements, MIMO, and wireless link analysis using its X-Series signal analyzers. Agilent is also demonstrating RF network field analysis using the company’s handheld RF tools.

For Multi-Standard Radio and MIMO OTA test, Agilent will showcase the new Agilent MSR N9083A/W9083A measurement application for the X-Series signal analyzers, which enables one-button, standards-based testing per the RF requirements defined in the TR 37 series of the 3GPP Release 9 standard. The MSR application allows engineers to build a multi-format, multi-carrier signal from single signal generator with any combination of FDD LTE/LTE-Advanced, W-CDMA/HSPA/HSPA+, GSM/EDGE/EDGE Evo, and cdma2000/1xEV-DO or to perform transmitter test on any combination of LTE-FDD, W-CDMA/HSPA/HSPA,+ and GSM/EDGE/EDGE Evolution signals.

RF/microwave bench and field test tools on display include Agilent’s handheld spectrum analyzer (HSA) family and the Agilent N9923A FieldFox RF vector network analyzer. The Agilent HSA models, covering frequencies from 9 kHz to 20 GHz, have the features needed for operating in tough field environments. The N9344C, N9343C, N9342C and N9340B HSAs automate routine tasks to save time and ensure consistent results.

Also on display will be the N9344C and N9343C handheld spectrum analyzers—two field-ready instruments designed for technicians and engineers who install, maintain and troubleshoot RF/microwave systems.

For wireless link analysis, the company is highlighting the new 89600 WLA software, which is a MAC-layer complement to the company’s 89600 VSA software. The seamless combination of vector signal analysis and wireless link analysis gives system-integration and verification engineers greater visibility into the increasingly complex and dynamic interaction between the MAC and physical layers in product designs based on today’s wireless standards. The WLA software provides wireless link analysis decoding control and feedback messages and then correlates them with the physical-layer signals they manage.

For MIMO test, the Agilent N7109A combines modular N7100 Series measurement hardware with the MIMO capabilities of the Agilent 89600B VSA software. The combination enables fast, informative measurements of devices that range from 2×2 to 4×4, and leaves room for future evolution beyond four channels. For LTE UE R&D test, the Agilent PXT wireless communications test set can be used to test RF parametric performance, functional end-to-end data throughput and inter-RAT handovers. It also can be used to create protocol messages and log/analyze protocol signaling. Finally, for LTE UE manufacturing test, Agilent will highlight the Agilent EXT wireless communications test set, which works in synch with chipset test modes to speed calibration and verification of the latest smart phones and other wireless devices contributing to manufacturing cost reductions.
