Intelligent Fan Reduces Complexity, Improves Manageability

May 1, 2001

Developed in response to Intel's IPMI and SMBus directives, the new Intellifan is an intelligent dc cooling fan that incorporates an I2C interface. This interface accepts speed commands and provides status to the system when queried, eliminating the need for several integrated circuits. The end result, the company says, is a less complex system design, improved manageability and reduced acoustic noise. A self contained management device, the Intellifan features variable speed ranges, rpm indication, integrated temperature monitoring, sensor event reporting, LED indicator, and extended wake-up support. Estimated price of the Intellifan is under $15.
