The Xcite modular power supply from Excelsys features a low 1U profile and 90% efficiency, with a maximum output of 1200 W, which gives the unit a 15-W/in.³ power density. This supply has an innovative “plug-and-play” architecture that allows designers to configure a custom power solution in less than 5 minutes. Users can plug up to six powerMods—configurable dc output modules—into an Xcite chassis. The unit accepts a universal input range of 85 to 264 V ac, and provides outputs of 2.5, 5, 12, 24, and 48 V dc with output power from 400 to 1200 W. All outputs are fully isolated and may be connected in series or parallel, as required. A separate 5-V dc “standby” voltage is also provided for system administrators, and front-panel LEDs offer visual system status checks. The supply includes over-voltage protection, and it will operate at full load up to 50°C.
The high efficiency results from the use of low-loss switching technologies and the best field-proven planar magnetics, according to Excelsys. The Xcite’s efficiency reduces system thermal load by more than 50% over conventional designs and improves power-supply and system reliability. The planar magnetics, as well as extensive use of surface-mount components, allows the low profile.
