In addition to claiming to be the most compact 2.5-in. solid-state disk (SSD) on the market, one member of pueSilicon Inc.’s Nitro Series, announced at CES 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada, emerges as the first SSD to crack the 1 TB benchmark. Deploying four of these drives provides 4 TB of storage in the same space as a standard 3.5-in. HDD—meeting server-footprint requirements while reducing energy consumption in data-intensive applications (see the fig).
Measuring 100.2 by 69.85 by 9.5 mm, the 1-TB Nitro SSD delegates 15.4-GB of storage space per cubic centimeter in a 2.5-in. form-factor. Other drives in the series are available with capacities of 32 GB, 64 GB, 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB. Shared features include a 300-MB/s SATA II interface, sustained read rate of 240 MB/s, sustained write rate of 215 MB/s, latency of 100 ?s, MTBF of 2,000,000 hours, an active power consumption of 4.8 W, and an idle power of 0.1 W.
