A new Lithium Thionyl Chloride battery constructed from inorganic materials has a capacity rating of 3,300 mAh. Designed to fit the familiar type A form factor, Model ER17/50H battery offers a 20% increase in capacity and serves as a power source for the longer-lasting generation of automatic meter readers. To meet the needs of this industry, the cell has an increased lithium content but has kept its standard size. Because it is hermetically sealed, the battery is particularly well-suited for use where long-term operation is required, such as in automatic meter readers in gas and water utilities, as well as a backup power source for memory ICs. The ER17/50H joins a line that includes the conventional ER/1750 battery constructed of inorganic materials. The new battery has a high voltage of 3.6V, a flat discharge voltage through the end of its life, high energy density, and a temperature range of –55ºC to 85ºC. Like the conventional model, its nominal discharge current is 120 µA and weight is 20g. It measures 2.047'' x 0.669''. MAXELL CORP OF AMERICA, Fair Lawn, NJ. (201) 794-5900.
