Enlarging the 16-Bit HCS12 microcontroller (MCU) family are three pin-compatible devices that vie for position in the industrial, consumer, and automotive markets. They offer on-chip debugging and code compatibility with 68HC11 and 68HC12 architectures. The HC9S12A64 is designed for instrumentation, energy management, robotics, industrial control, and security systems and the HC9S12D64 and HC9S12DJ64 target automotive body electronics and industrial control applications. Each device includes a 25-MHz HCS12 core,. 64 KB of flash memory, 1 KB of EEPROM, 4 KB of RAM, a 16-channel, 10-bit A/D converter, an eight-channel, 16-bit timer with capture and compare, and a four-channel, 16-bit or eight-channel, 8-bit pulse width modulator (PWM). In terms of I/O, one SPI, one I2C, and two SCI interfaces are included. The HC9S12D64 integrates a software-compatible 1 Mb/s CAN 2.0 A, B module and the HC9S12DJ64 includes a one-byte data link controller. A variety of development tools including BDM emulators, kits for code development and evaluation, and stand-alone programmers are available. The MCUs come in a 112-lead LQFP or 80 LQFP.
