Targeting markets that include telecom equipment and surge protection modules, as well as industrial, commercial, consumer, and automotive electronics, the company has expanded its circuit-protection device offerings with a line of gas discharge tubes (GDTs). The components are placed in front of, and in parallel with, the equipment and act as a high impedance component while not influencing the signal in normal operation. In the event of an over-voltage surge, the GDT switches to a low impedance state and diverts energy away. Other reported features include a fast and accurate break-over voltage. Price is $0.30 each/100,000/year. TYCO ELECTRONICS POWER COMPONENTS, Menlo Park, CA. (800) 227-7040.
