Digital Regulator Maintains Tight Control

Feb. 17, 2011
The 3E series BMR463 second-generation, digital point-of-load regulator brags of unprecedented functionality.

The 3E series BMR463 second-generation, digital point-of-load regulator brags of unprecedented functionality. It enables systems architects to fully monitor and dynamically control energy delivered to critical components, i.e., processors, FPGAs, ASICs, and others. The 20A BMR463 supports paralleling up to eight modules to deliver 160A with each module able to be paralleled and un-paralleled on demand, dynamically tracking and reducing the power consumption as required and optimizing the configuration for a range of load conditions. Additionally, when parallel mode is activated, an interleaving-operation reduces EMI and current-peak levels. Other features include an input voltage range of 4.5V to 14V, output voltage range of 0.6V to 3.3V, an efficiency of 97.1%, and form factor of 25.65 mm x 13.8 x mm 8.2 mm. The BMR463 costs $11 each in OEM quantities. ERICSSON INC., Plano, TX. (972) 583-6910/-5254.
