The TJA1054 is a third-generation, low-speed transceiver for the Controller Area Network (CAN), the most widely used in-vehicle network standard. CAN is used extensively in automotive networks to interconnect body and comfort electronics, such as lighting, seat and door modules, and access and immobilization facilities. The transceiver is said to improve signal reliability and to minimize RFI to other systems. The device is pin-for-pin compatible with earlier generations and provides an immediate 20 dB improvement in RFI performance. It also switches automatically to a single-wire mode in the event of a bus failure for even more system reliability.
