A series of cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) that come in bright white and UV types are targeting applications such as hand-held instrumentation, purification systems, optical readers, scanners, and LCD illumination. The lamps feature diameters of less than 3.5 mm and come in white and ultra violet. The bright-white lamps use special phosphors that are said to enhance visible illumination to 26,000 cd/m2 and the UV lamps have a spectral distribution ranging from 300 nm to 400 nm with a peak wavelength of 350 nm. The CCFLs draw only 5 mA of current and have a life expectancy of greater than 10,000 hrs. Prices are from $9 each depending on type and quantity.
