The MAX17075 boost regulator from Maxim Integrated Products includes charge pumps, switch control, and a high-current operational amplifier. Developed using the company’s proprietary high-voltage process technology, it integrates all the functions required to power the source drivers, gate drivers, and VCOM backplane in LCDs. This step-up dc-dc converter also includes a switch for gate-driver-supply modulation.

Designed for LCD monitors and TVs, its 1.2-MHz switching frequency allows the use of low-profile inductors and ceramic capacitors. The boost regulator also integrates a power MOSFET and digital soft-start to reduce the number of external components required to control inrush currents. Through this topology, the MAX17075 provides output voltages up to 18 V from a 2.5- to 5.5-V input while achieving efficiencies over 85%.

The MAX17075’s charge pumps provide LCD gate-on and gate-off supplies. Also, it allows the output voltage to be adjusted using external resistive voltage-dividers. The built-in op amp drives the VCOM backplane and features ±500-mA short-circuit current with a 45-V/µs slew rate. Available in a 4- by 4-mm, 24-pin thin quad flat no-lead (TQFN) package, the MAX17075 is fully specified from –40°C to 85°C. Pricing starts at $1.10 in quantities of 1000 and up.
