To raise brightness levels, the UniGlo Optima optical fiber panels enlist the services of white LEDs, making the RGB panels 2.5 times brighter than previous generations. The panels now offer brightness figures up to 75 Ft-L, depending on panel size and configuration. They measure 0.33-mm thick, do not require an inverter, and generate no heat or EMI. Power consumption is typically 20 mA to 30 mA at 3.6V with an operating temperature range of -40ºC to +85ºC. Additionally, the company offers custom die cutting, color changes, individual segment lighting, different shapes and sizes, and prototyping. Pricing for optical-fiber, white-LED backlights starts at approximately $0.25 to $0.70 per square inch in OEM quantities. For more information, contact Frank Byers at LUMITEX INC., Strongsville, OH.
