Saving space and power, the MAX8830 LED light-management IC measures 2.5 mm x 2.5 mm in its UCSP and delivers an efficiency in excess of 90%. The device eliminates the need for separate control ICs and integrates four 10-mA current regulators. Individual LED brightness is adjustable in 32 steps through an I2C interface. With a typical drop-out voltage of 30 mV, it allows step-up dc/dc voltage to be set as low as possible for select LEDs. Other features include a 200-mA flash-current regulator with a typical dropout of 75 mV, which allows individual programming of 16 current levels for movie and flash modes, a switching MOSFET, synchronous rectifier, and a 1-MHz switching frequency. Prices start at $2.50 each/2,500. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
