Nine-Channel LED Drivers Improve Backlighting

The AL3158 and AL3159 nine-channel LED drivers employ internal charge-pumps for enhancing backlighting of small-LCD screens, keypads, and LED lights. Working from 2.7V to 5.5V and driving 20 mA, they drive three groups of three LED channels and provide three independent PWM dimmable control inputs. The AL3158 provides a simple drive for RGB LEDs while the AL3159 with three-wire logic decoding of LED current control simplifies the driving of nine LEDs for illuminating LCD screens and LED indicator control. Both drivers are available in 20-pin, 3 mm x 3 mm x 0.6 mm QFN packages. Price for either device is $0.25 each/1,000. For further information, call Glen Wynn at DIODES INC., Dallas, TX.
