This fall, the SMMA Motor & Motion College will offer three motor control courses. Topics to be covered include the Basics of Brushless DC Motors, Basic Motor Theory, Operation and Application, and Fundamentals of Brushless Motor Control.

*Basics of Brushless DC Motors

Monday and Tuesday, September 20-21, 2004 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Indiana Convention Center, Electrical Manufacturing Expo 2004

This course will cover the basic configuration of BLDC motors; steel and magnet selection; mechanical considerations; magnetic circuit modeling; motor drive types and performance calculations. Instructor: William H. Yeadon, P.E., President, Yeadon Energy Systems Inc.

*Basic Motor Theory, Operation and Application

Wednesday, September 22, 2004 from 8 a.m. to noon, Indiana Convention Center, Electrical Manufacturing Expo 2004

The intent of this course is to provide technical laypersons and non-motor engineering professionals with a basic understanding of how motors operate, what "systems" constitute a motor and characteristics of various motor types (e.g,. dc motors, electronically commutated motors and induction motors). Instructor: William H. Yeadon, P.E., President, Yeadon Energy Systems Inc.

*Fundamentals of Brushless Motor Control

Wednesday, November 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., St. Louis Marriott Airport Hotel, SMMA 2004 Fall Technical Conference

The purpose of this course is to provide fundamental concepts and knowledge necessary to design or apply dc and brushless motor drives for design engineers and field application engineers in the motion control industry. Instructor: Dal Y. Ohm, Ph.D., President, Drivetech Inc.
