Advanced Analogic Technologies Inc. (AnalogicTech) recently introduced the AAT3258 LDO linear regulator with uP reset. This high-performance device combines a 300-mA LDO regulator with a low current uP reset in half the space of two discrete devices, minimizing board size for portable products, such as cellular phones, PDAs, digital cameras and notebook computers.

The AAT3258 has been optimized for very fast startup and shutdown timing, which is ideal for regulating power for microprocessor blocks that quickly turn to full power from sleep mode. The device also delivers very fast transient response time to react quickly to load current changes—an important attribute for applications such as GSM phones, which turn on and off quickly to transmit and receive data.

The AAT3258 has a number of power-saving features, including a shutdown mode to extend battery life. Dropout voltage is only 400 mV at full 300-mA output. Moreover, the microprocessor reset section typically consumes just 1 µA of quiescent current and has an active low reset output.

The AAT3258 also features complete overcurrent/short-circuit protection and overtemperature protection circuits for reliable operation in extreme operating conditions. The LDO regulator output on the AAT3258 is optimized to function with low-cost, low ESR ceramic capacitors, and supports operation over a range of capacitor types.

The AAT3258 is qualified across the standard –40°C to +85°C industrial temperature range. It is available now in an 8-pin TSOPJW package. Pricing starts at $0.76 per unit in 1000-piece quantities.
