New capacitors covering the 5-µF to 60-µF range have been added to the EPCOS line of 4-pin link circuit capacitors operating on voltages from 250 Vdc (180 Vac) to 850 Vdc (350 Vac). The capacitors are equipped with four terminal wires as standard, whose spacing varies with case size.

A polypropylene film metalized with an aluminum-zinc alloy and specified for the temperature range from -55°C to +85°C is used as the dielectric of the new power capacitors, which—like all film capacitors—are self-healing. A plastic case, in which the winding is fixed in place by epoxy encapsulation, ensures mechanical stability.

Thanks to this rugged design, the capacitors can also handle high currents. Depending on type, they can operate on up to 50-A rms at 70°C/100 kHz and permitted self-heating up to 15 K, and withstand peak currents up to 600 A. They also feature low equivalent series resistance of less than 35 mΩ at 100 kHz and low equivalent series inductance. Thanks to the wide variety of case sizes, EPCOS can offer an optimum range of power capacitors for modular design of capacitor banks for link circuits.

Series B32656-C comprises various types with standardized case sizes from 16 mm × 28.5 mm × 41.5 mm to 35 mm × 50 mm × 57.5 mm. Customer-specific variants can be supplied on request. Ratings range from 15 µF to 60 µF at 250 Vdc, and from 0.27 µF to 0.47 µF at 2000 Vdc, with the usual capacitance tolerances from ±5% to ±20%.
