Intersil’s ISL6294 single-cell Li-ion battery charger IC features high-voltage inputs and a compact 2-mm × 3-mm DFN package. The chip accepts input voltages up to 28 V but is disabled when the input voltage exceeds the overvoltage protection (OVP) threshold of 6.8 V (typical). This prevents excessive power dissipation and enhances charger system safety. The 28-V rating eliminates the need for the overvoltage protection circuitry typically required by devices with lower input voltage ratings.

The ISL6294 implements a single-cell Li-ion complete charger circuit with integrated pass element and current sensor. No external blocking diode is required. The device specifies a 700-mA maximum charge rate and 1% voltage accuracy. Additional features include programmable charge current, programmable end-of-charge current and Thermaguard charge current thermal foldback for thermal protection. The ISL6294 is available now with unit pricing at $0.80 quantities of 10,000.
