NEC Electronics America has expanded its semiconductor offerings in the Americas to include a line of power management devices (PMDs) that has already proven successful for its parent company, NEC Electronics Corp. The PMD products being introduced include low-voltage power MOSFETs, noise-clipping and electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection diodes and low dropout (LDO) voltage regulators that will strengthen the company’s position as a provider of complete system-level semiconductor solutions for an even wider variety of target markets.

“NEC Electronics has enjoyed great success with its PMD products in Japan and Asia, where our work serving automotive, consumer, computing and industrial customers has helped us to develop PMD products that are industry leaders in quality,” said Bart Ladd, general manager, standard solutions strategic business unit, NEC Electronics America. “The addition of PMD to our product mix will increase our value to our customers.”

The power MOSFETs serve as switching devices with very low current leakage to provide efficient power management in high-frequency power supplies and motor control systems. The noise-clipping and ESD protection diodes protect high-speed system data from being degraded due to electromagnetic noise and other chips in the system from being damaged due to static electricity. The LDO voltage regulators maintain a stable supply of power in systems receiving unstable or unrectified direct current, thus protecting valuable electronic circuitry in the system.

Initially, NEC Electronics America will target these PMDs to automotive, mobile, PC peripheral and high-speed interface applications, and then eventually to applications for communication devices, electronic appliances and uninterruptible power supplies. All devices in the three PMD lines are now available in production quantities.
