SDF Forum Slates Workshop On Frequency-Agile RF Technologies

The Software Defined Radio (SDR) Forum has scheduled a day-long workshop on frequency-agile RF technologies for commercial and defense applications on Jan. 15 in conjunction with its general meeting (Jan. 14-17 in Tampa).

The Software Defined Radio (SDR) Forum has scheduled a day-long workshop on frequency-agile RF technologies for commercial and defense applications on Jan. 15 in conjunction with its general meeting (Jan. 14-17 in Tampa). Topics on the agenda include the requirements for radio systems designed to operate over a wide range of bands and definition of state-of-the-art RF and intermediate frequency technologies that address those requirements. Speakers will include Bruce Fette, chief scientist for General Dynamics C4S and chair of the SDR Forum Technical Committee, and Preston Marshal, program manager at the Defense Department’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. There will also be keynote speeches by Alcatel-Lucent and Motorola, as well as a panel discussion, product demonstrations, and presentations by BitWave Semiconductor, DataSoft, Hypres, Paratek, Softronics, Terocelo, Thales Communications, and other vendors. "The ability of a radio to operate over a wide range of frequencies has always been a grand challenge in realizing the vision of software-defined radio," Lee Pucker, CEO of the SDR Forum, said in a statement. "Through this workshop, the Forum hopes to define what the state of the art is in addressing this challenge, allowing software-defined and cognitive radios to communicate on available networks and using available spectrum based on a policy decision, not a technology limitation."
